WAITARA SKATEPARK
Good design is critical to create enjoyable and liveable cities and places. Within the skatepark design, Convic has begun to explore culturally appropriate design processes and responses that enhance the natural landscape and built environment of Waitara while providing a skatepark that forms connection to place and culture.
The current design has adopted the following design principles/values: Kotahitanga / Unity, cohesion & community, Kaitiakitanga / Sustainable practices and Whanaungatanga / Shared experiences. These principles will be tested and further developed in collaboration with local cultural designers.
A unique mix of materials and colours will create an aesthetic for the space, whilst further strengthening connections to place and the projects core values and minimising the facilities visual impact on its coastal location.
